Pairing Vessel 1991 Wood, sheet metal, copper, enamel with metal bucket. 42 x 23 x 23 inches.
One of the first works to explore a semblance of practical function. I considered constructions like Pairing Vessel to be ambiguous as to whether they were art or 'ordinary objects.' This work is a functioning tub that could hold liquid which drained away through a copper coil into a bucket under its carriage.
